I have a Late 2012 base Mac Mini with the 500 Gig HDD. I have two 480 GB SSDs that I want to swap in. I purchased the iFixit Dual Drive kit and am going to to replace the original HDD with one SSD and put the second SSD in the other bay. Question About Ssd For Mac Pro

I have problems on the software side - I want to put the drives in RAID 0 for better performance. Preferably, I would like to have a completely clean install of Mac OS on the new drives. I will copy the files from the current internal HDD in my mini to an external HDD. After that I would probably but in the two new drives and want to install MacOS. I have looked for instructions/tutorials online but to no avail.

Quite a few are available for people just adding another drive, but with my plan, I won't be able to clone/just use the original HDD. How can I go about enabling RAID 0 and installing a fresh version of Mac OS?

Do I strip the Mini, install the new SSDs, RAID them, use a bootable drive? Or will I need to install the OS using the USB drive and then RAID them? I'm pretty sure you'll suffer more than improve if you use two ssd's in a fusion configuration. Fusion utilizes a fast (ssd) for performance and the other (hdd) for storage. It may just end up constantly swapping back and forth.

You could use diskutil to just RAID them, in 0 for crazy performance and low reliability, or 1 for still fast ssd speeds and some decent reliability. Keep in mind I'm not talking about backup, which you'll want anyway.

But any of these configurations will have more impact depending on what you ultimately intend to do with the mini. • • • • • • •. So I successfully put in both SSDs and installed macOS on one of the SSDs.
